Class Objective:

Family and Consumer Sciences is a class where students integrate their skills from math, English and science and apply them to “real life” problem solving.  Students learn to use tools and resources to create a personalized sewing project and then go on to learn about nutrition and food preparation.  Students learn to measure ingredients correctly, use the microwave, stovetop, oven and other kitchen equipment and tools to create delicious recipes.  They also learn how different foods were influenced by American history (did you know that sugar was rationed during WWII because it was needed to make bombs?) and how different cultures have influenced the foods that Americans eat and accept as “normal” (did you know that most cultures consider corn on the cob to be a food fit only for animals?  Family and Consumer Sciences explores all this and more!
